After she made her debut, Smriti Mandhana became an instant internet sensation and a rage on social media.
She was named India’s ‘national crush‘ and has also evolved into one of the Indian cricket team’s most important members. She was named the Best Women’s International Cricketer by the BCCI in 2018.
ICC also awarded her the Rachael Heyhoe-Flint Award for best female cricketer of the year in the same year. At the same time, the apex cricket council has also called her ODI Player of the Year.
Smriti is one of the first Indian cricketers in the Kia Super League to sign a WBBL contract and the first Indian player to appear on it.
She has represented India in 50 ODI and 59 T20Is and 2 Tests since Mandhana made her debut, and scored 1951 and 1319 and 81 runs respectively.
Smriti stays relaxed on the field with the beautiful cover drive and lofted shots. She could however replace India’s stalwart, Mithali Raj as India’s next captain in the ODI format.
