Ronda Rousey, born in Riverside California on February 1, 1987, is an American martial arts expert who helped bring female MMA to the mainstream American audience, and was also the first female UFC champion.
Her umbilical cord was wrapped around her neck at the time of her birth and this almost killed her apart from causing minor brain damage that rendered her unable to speak coherently until she was six years old.
After a fall Rousey ‘s father Ron broke his back while sledding with his daughters. He committed suicide when Rousey was eight, having realised that he was going to be a paraplegic and later a quadriplegic with no more than a few years to live.
Rousey was homeschooled for elementary and high school parts but when she began to learn judo, she found a vent for her frustration. Her mother was a gold medal winning judoka in the 1984 World Championships and she educated her daughter to the basics of the sport including the deadly armbar she used to pin a mat rival.
When she was 15, Rousey became a member of the U.S. Olympic Team, and at the age of 16, she became the youngest American to reach rank number one in the half-middleweight division of wome.
Although he did not win a medal at the 2004 Olympics, Rousey won gold at the same year’s World Junior and Pan American Judo Championships.
Rousey became a judo champion at the Pan American Championships and won back gold at the 2008 Olympics as well as a bronze medal.
In 2010 Rousey joined the MMA circuit and became famous for being the UFC Bantamweight Champion. She declared in January 2018 that she had moved on to the WWE Pro Wrestling circuit.
